The Walkerville Football Club, founded in 1901, currently plays in Division 2 of the South Australian Amateur Football League. The club, which has 3 teams playing in the blue and white hoops, has very strong connections with various country regions including the Riverland, Whyalla, Port Lincoln and Mt Gambier. These strong links allows for a unique “country club feel” in the city.
It was from within the Football Club that the Netball Club was originally formed; with at first only 2 teams, since that day, the Netball Club Committee has taken it to the great levels we see today, with 10 teams representing the Cats.
Having the football and netball clubs work side by side, promoting joint social events and supporting each other over the years, has seen the overall club atmosphere grow significantly and gives Walkerville one of the biggest joint football and netball communities in the Adelaide area.
The Annual Ball is the premiere event on the social calendar each year and consistently attracts approximately 200 people and such is its reputation, many ex-Walkerville people who have had to move due to work commitments return to ensure that this is the night they do not miss!
On field, the Cats footballers have become a very consistent Division 2 club, maintaining this position since 2010 in what is a promotion-relegation SAAFL system. The club has been in 8 grand finals across the 3 grades in the last 7 seasons alone. After a solid 2014 season, 2015 provides an exciting opportunity to continue to work up the ladder and push for that ultimate position in Division 1.
